An increase of 12.2% was noted by Passenger traffic and 6.4% of air traffic at all airports in the country, according to statistics from the Civil Aviation Service (CAA) in the first quarter of 2024.
Concretely, the increase (+) of 12.2% compared to last year translates into passenger traffic from January to April 2024 for all airports in the country where commercial flights are carried out (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA). In more detail, the total number of passengers during the period January-April 2024 reached 12,586,931, compared to 11,223,043 passengers during the corresponding period January-April 2023.
Among the 24 airports managed by CAA, Heraklion Airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” welcomed the highest number of passengers in April 2024, recording an increase in domestic passenger arrivals of (+) 13.7% compared to April 2023. Specifically, in April 2024, domestic passenger arrivals in Heraklion there were 69,628 passengers, while in April last year there were 61,240 passengers. In total domestic and international passengers (departures and arrivals), Heraklion Airport welcomed 487,303 passengers in April this year, compared to 468,324 passengers last year.
Concerning the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of national and international aircraft) in the 1st quarter of 2024 for all 39 airports in the country, whose air control is exercised by the CAA, we recorded an increase (+ ) by 6.4% compared to the corresponding period from January to April 2023. In particular, in the 1st quarter of 2024, 108,623 flights were carried out, compared to 102,079 flights in the 1st quarter of 2023.
