According to the popular website trusted by millions of French tourists, “St. John of Kastri Church stands iconically on a rocky island offering a mesmerizing panorama that ’embraces’ the Aegean Sea. The setting was immortalized in the film adaptation of the musical Mamma Mia, transforming the impressive rock from a lookout against pirate attacks it served centuries ago, into an international attraction for couples, nature lovers and walkers.

It should be noted that Skopelos Municipality continues its promotional efforts in emerging markets, such as the French market, which in recent years has shown a strong preference for Sporades.
“Mamma Mia in Skopelos is not a movie, it is an experience. Those who visit Skopelos fall in love with nature, hospitality, simple tastes, picturesque alleys and activities and end up coming back again and again because they become our friends. After all, this is the essence of the vacation we want to have,” explains Eva Karamesini, chairwoman of the Skopelos Municipality Tourism Committee.
At the same time, with the aim of reviving the romantic atmosphere of Mamma Mia, the municipality of Skopelos chose this year to seduce the traveling public through an original clip featuring the “flying” pianist Elena Xydia. The artist’s piano was placed next to the chapel of Agios Ioannis, on top of the 100 meter high rock, as part of a long-term shoot carried out with the support of a large number of volunteers . Against the backdrop of the blue-green waters of Skopelos, Ms. Xydia “revived” Mamma Mia by playing timeless ABBA compositions on the piano.
