We previously reported that a financial A complaint for fraud has been filed against the creators of the Malayalam movie RDX: Robert Dony Xavier for failing to honor his commitment to distribute profits to stakeholders. Today, in a new turn of events, a new controversial was born about the hit action movie released last year.
THE Issue
In a fresh controversy related to the 2023 Malayalam film, the producers of the blockbuster Sophie Paul and James Paul’s film have reportedly filed a civil suit against his director Nahas Hidayath, demanding over Rs 1 crore as compensation for breach of contract.
Producer Sophia Paul and her company have accused Nahas of breaching a contract, under which the director, who was paid Rs 15 lakh for directing his debut film RDX, was to direct his second film for the same company. After receiving Rs 40 lakh and another Rs 4.82 lakh for pre-production of the new film, Nahas allegedly walked out of the project despite repeated requests to stay on.
Compensation requested
The producers are therefore demanding the advance amount plus Rs 50 lakhs in damages, including 18% interest. The Ernakulam court has summoned Nahas for a hearing on August 6, though the filmmaker claims he has not received the summons yet.
Meanwhile, the case against the producers involves Anjana Abraham, a resident of Tripunithura, who alleged that the film’s producers Sophia Paul and James Paul failed to honour their commitment to distribute profits to stakeholders after the film was extremely well received in theatres, leading to its financial success.
