They return to settle illegally in their homes after being evicted

A ridiculous situation. A couple living in Graulhet (Tarn) finds itself in difficulty and illegality for a situation for which the interested parties are absolutely not responsible. They were in fact ordered to leave their home because a neighboring house was threatening to collapse. Problem: the situation was starting to drag on and was costing them money. This house that allowed them to fulfill their dream of becoming a homeowner turned into a nightmare in November 2022 when they had to urgently evacuate the premises with their son. The building located opposite their house was in fact threatening to collapse.

As reported by La Dépêche du Midi The family was then housed for a while at the Hôtel du Lac before friends found them temporary housing. They were thus allowed to return home on Christmas Eve, but the situation had already cost them 1,500 euros. And the worst part is what “forced relocation” will not be the last. By the end of 2023, the facade of the neighbor’s house is sagging again and a new solution has to be found.

No other solution

Initially, Sandrine, Vincent, their son and their dog are housed in a T2 type accommodation whose rent is paid by the town hall but they are warned that they will have to leave the premises in June. And above all, they have to continue to pay the charges for their house in addition to those for the temporary accommodation… This is how when the town hall of Graulhet offers them new accommodation, they decide to refuse and return to their house. “We know it’s illegal but we had no other solution”explains Sandrine.

The couple particularly denounces the attitude of insurers who pass the buck, delaying compensation. Furthermore, the family notes that their street is open and that there is traffic, which should not be the case if their home is no longer viable. Despite the illegality of the situation, the family has clearly indicated its intentions to the prefecture and benefits from the goodwill of the municipality. The town hall of their commune tells La Dépêche that it understands the difficulties and frustration of this family in the face of the length of the procedures and the condemnation of one of the insurers to proceed with compensation.
